Customer Reviews:

A review with a 'Happy Ending' By Stephen D. Johnson
For 25+ years, I have traveled extensively, averaging at least 50,000 air miles per year. Ironically I have had many `good, the bad and ugly' experiences with luggage. In identifying some new luggage, I knew exactly the type of suitcases I wanted for a specific European adventure with the family. I wanted cheap hard ABS cases versus the more gimmicky thinner plastic alternatives (which I have broken many). Yes, I could easily spend much more, but why? Even good bags from reputable brands give grief.

After a comprehensive search (Amazon, Ebags, Overstock etc.) reviewing competing sets in this category (sub $200), speaking with the Amazon distributor (Golf Outlets - who politely addressed my questions), I purchased the Black 4-wheeled 3-piece ABS suitcase set from the unknown brand Swiss Case. I purchased these based on the price - yes these cases are made in China - but what else would you expect when you want cheap? Additionally they look nice. I also liked the color options for this set and went with black. Yes, black, how original? - It matches my other travel bags.

Though at first I was concerned about the quality, within days of our arrival in Europe, I didn't even think about it. After a strenuous 30 day trip (October 2012) which included 6 flights, 1000km+ of train travel, car rentals, many taxis and hotels: the handles, wheels, zippers and interiors of these 3 cases held up very well. At times the bags were overstuffed, abused and on occasion even dropped. Yes even in business class you can get mistreated!

The ABS shells held up well and didn't cave, collapse, crack or fail. We carried typical luggage items (clothes), and stuffed (strained the zippers on occasion) the 28" and 24" cases each close to capacity (50lbs) for the duration of the trip. We easily could have put much more but I didn't want to chance paying the airlines 'fat' bag tax!

The cases honestly were a joy to travel with. My 6 year old daughter fell in love with the 20" case which easily carried all her essentials (stuffed fuzzy friends). Additionally she was able to pull or push the case easily, which was a bonus to me. Other then scratches and scuffs (to be expected) especially after a flight, these bags still look new.

On our homeward bound flight, the airline broke a very small plastic piece on the side of the 24" case (this piece acts as a support when the case is rested on its side).

Typical of the airlines, I was 'do-do' out of luck.

Since these cases worked so well on this trip, I planned to keep them and I didn't want the one case to look broken. Once home I called customer service at Golf Outlets to get the case repaired. The customer service rep was very understanding and concerned, but explained they had not historically shipped parts like this to customers. After providing some photos of the damaged case, I was told they would look into it. Within 48 hours I received notice from Golf Outlets that they would provide a replacement part free of charge, which I received several days later. The shipping of this part likely cost more than the part itself, for which I was willing to pay, and didn't have to.

I repaired the case myself in less than five minutes. Good as new!

As for the negative reviews, I find them to be unrealistic and even unfair to Swiss Case, especially when the product gets reviewed before proper field testing.

Look at the positive reviews on Amazon for the 2-piece Swiss Case set. These are the exact same cases. If you're concerned about the 'Made in China' aspect of these cases then buy something else, which will likely cost double or triple.

SWISS CASE CONCLUSION:
- Great value proposition when compared to very similar cases that cost over $300 each.
- Decent quality, 4 out of 5 (would rate higher if that piece didn't break).
- Strong attractive looking cases.
- Stronger than expected zippers.
- Inside volume is bigger than expected.
- Light weight allowing for more items without going over the 50lb airline minimum.
- The case will scratch and scuff but is only noticeable at certain angles.
- Excellent customer service.
- Highly recommended and would buy again.

Well done Golf Outlets, thank you!

WORST CHEAP LUGGAGE EVER! Do Not Buy this JUNK! By R Robinson
I was excited to get my new luggage, I shopped and looked up reviews. Price seemed good but now I know why. The brand says Swiss but its totally Chinese....I packed up for Europe 2 days after receiving the luggage, bags looked ok after arriving but the wheels broke into pieces after walking less than 100 feet on a sidewalk. I carried the luggage to my hotel where I discover the zipper was separated on one of them, making it useless. I'll spend twice the price to get a bag that will hold up for more than one use, I'm waiting on an approval for return. DO NOT BUY!1 of 1

Thrilled with this purchase By Phedre Devereaux
I am extremely happy with this purchase. The reviews concerning this set gave me pause, but I looked at the reviews for the set of two (which are the exact same bags) and decided to give it a go.

When the luggage arrived, one of the "feet" on the side was cracked. I contacted customer service and they got back to me within a few hours. They were both friendly and helpful. They sent me the replacement part with no issue.

I recently took two of the three bags on vacation and checked both. They handled well in the airport and being dragged all over vacation, are extremely light well, and hold a lot more than I was expecting. Four airplanes later, the only thing that is different about the bags is that the shiny surface has been scuffed in a few places, but I can't really fault the bags for that. Air travel is not exactly gentle on luggage.

My one critique is that the telescoping handle on the smallest bag did not always stay locked in the halfway position.

Overall, I am very happy with this purchase, especially for the price. I also like how they nest inside each other, meaning I only need room to store the largest bag, not three separate bags.
