So Far, So Good: Big, Sturdy, and No Smell By B. Johnston
I haven't used these yet, but so far these appear to be exactly what I wanted in luggage. It's not the lightest luggage set, but I think that is due to the size of the cases and type of material.
The pieces in this set are large - if you compare the dimensions in some other 3-piece luggage sets, you'll find the capacity of the middle piece in this set is larger than the largest piece in some other sets. The luggage does not expand, but I can't imagine needing it to do so. It looks like you can fit a ton in these things! I will probably only use the largest case for trips lasting a week or longer.
The luggage feels much, much sturdier than most of the hardside luggage I've looked at. The casing looks thicker, the wheels move smoothly (even over carpet), the construction appears solid, and the handles snap back into place after you let go.
The majority of the exterior is textured, which I think will wear better than a smooth finish. Only the indentions in front have a smooth surface, and the Heys logo is etched onto it. I don't think that adds much to the appearance, but it doesn't hurt it, either.
The pink color is a very much a bubble gum pink. Unless Barbie is traveling on the same plane as me, I shouldn't have any trouble identifying my luggage on a baggage carousel! The inside of the luggage is completely covered in a gray, satiny material, and there are pockets and zippered areas. All of the cases came with TSA locks.
Downsides of the luggage:
(1) Weight (but they're big and sturdy);
(2) The rubber cover around the zipper was bent out of shape on my smallest case due to the way it was packed for shipping (but it doesn't interfere with the function of the zipper and it could go back into shape on its own); and
(3) It doesn't come with any straps to tether them all together.
UPDATE: I took the medium size bag on a couple of car trips, and it did well. I could pack a crazy amount of stuff in it, and it help up well when I dragged it through several parking lots. However, I noticed a couple of drawbacks. First off, it is embarassing how large this case is. I haven't compared the measurements to airline carry-on requirements, but I would be really surprised if this passed the test. This baby is probably checked bag only. It would probably also be over-weight, the way I packed it. Second, the size/weight made it a little difficult pulling across the carpeted halls in hotels. I can't imagine how tough it would be pulling several of them at once [that may be whey there are no tethers]. Bigger wheels would probably have helped. We got these as a wedding gift and so far have only had cause to use the two smaller pieces--the biggest piece is absolutely HUGE. I think I could fit inside of it! Not entirely sure when I'll be taking a transatlantic ocean liner that would require such an enormous piece of luggage, but who knows? The other two pieces are of more useful sizes, and have been employed for several short trips and getaways. I appreciate all the pockets on the inside of the cases--the flaps that secure the contents on either side of the suitcase have zippered mesh pockets on them--good for stashing keys, jewelry, plugs, etc.
The wheels have great motion and they roll very smoothly--much better than my old $20 rolly that made a racket and was a literal pain in the butt to tug along. The handles pull up and retracts smoothly, as well--nice construction.
My two negatives: the hard shell is more of a "semi-rigid" shell. That is, if the gorilla from that old Samsonite commercial got a hold of these, they'd probably get squished pretty quickly. That said, I think they're sturdy enough to handle the general rigors of travel--and if you're packing breakables and liquids in your suitcase, the onus is on you.
My other negative is I wish there was at least some sort of slip pocket on the backs of the suitcases--to stick your magazine, ticket, or what have you inside. A little stash place on the exterior so you don't have to unzip.
(Note: The suitcases are more matte and not as glossy as they appear in the photograph.)

**UPDATE: After several airline trips I've noticed that pull-up handle on the middle-sized suitcase (the one we use the most) has become lose and a bit wobbly. Not a huge deal yet, but just not as structurally sturdy as I previously had thought.**
